The 1000 Voices Archive is proud to partner with American Documentary and P.O.V., television's longest-running showcase for independent non-fiction films.
Over the past 20 years, P.O.V. has worked with hundreds of filmmakers and engaged millions of viewers through point-of-view storytelling representing the full range of contemporary issues. P.O.V. films are known for their intimacy, their unforgettable storytelling and their timelessness, putting a human face on contemporary social issues.
"This ability to empathize - to understand what life is like for someone else," as P.O.V. Executive Director Simon Kilmurry said, "is a cornerstone of a vibrant democracy."
Each year, P.O.V. premiers 14-16 of the best, boldest and innovative programs on PBS. Since 1988, they have presented over 225 films to public television audiences around the country.
The 1000 Voices Archive continues to showcase and promote re-edited film shorts of P.O.V. films such as Critical Condition, by Peabody award winning director Roger Weisberg, helping extend audiences and civic impact through "activation tools," links to advocacy organizations, and outreach to community leaders across the country.
